PNQ: Adrien Duval affirms that the Govind couple have already been convicted of “dealing in stolen property”, Ramgoolam says he is not aware of this

During the Private Notice Question (PNQ) devoted to alleged cannabis trafficking between Mauritius and Reunion Island, PMSD MP Adrien Duval asked the Prime Minister if he was aware that Gulshan Govind and Véronique Leu-Govind had already been convicted in a case of “dealing in stolen property”.

“I am not aware of this matter,” replied Navin Ramgoolam.

Adrien Duval then cited the case number, 398/11, stating that it related to a charge of “dealing in stolen property”. He added that Véronique Leu-Govind would have been fined Rs 5,000 and placed on good behavior for three years.

The Prime Minister then replied: “But you were the President of PMSD at the time. »

Adrien Duval replied: “That’s why the PMSD refused to give him a ticket. She came to your party and you gave her an nomination. »

These exchanges come as Gulshan Govind was arrested as part of the investigation into the alleged trafficking of 155.7 kg of cannabis, with an estimated value of Rs 233.5 million, between Mauritius and Reunion. His wife, Véronique Leu-Govind, has since resigned from her position as Junior Minister, while retaining her mandate as an MP. The couple is now at the heart of this investigation. The Financial Crimes Commission (FCC) is also investigating its money laundering component.
