Arianne Navarre-Marie will shortly be sworn in as Deputy Prime Minister. The information was confirmed by the RadioPlus editorial staff. According to consistent sources, the Prime Minister, Navin Ramgoolam, has already made his decision. A ministerial reshuffle is also looming, with the position of Deputy Prime Minister being left vacant following the departure of Paul Bérenger as well as that of his daughter, Joanna Bérenger, as Junior Minister for the Environment.
It comes to us that the swearing-in of Arianne Navarre-Marie at the State House cannot be long in coming. It is expected to be made official once the Prime Minister finalizes the details.
In Navin Ramgoolam's close entourage, we are categorical: the leader of the Labor Party (PTr) is in alliance with the Mauritius Militant Movement (MMM), which is still in government after the departure of Paul Bérenger, and Navin Ramgoolam is keen to respect this alliance.
So, he met with purple leaders to listen to their proposals before deciding.
The head of government also met his loyal PTr lieutenants last Tuesday to inform them of the direction he intends to adopt. At the same time, with the departure of his deputy and Joanna Bérenger, a ministerial reshuffle is on the horizon.
If the Prime Minister must still consult other interlocutors before finalizing his choices, it is our opinion that two purple elected officials should gain ground, one by accessing a ministerial portfolio and the other by a position of delegated minister. Other adjustments are also on the agenda.
In the meantime, Arianne Navarre-Marie, Minister of Gender Equality and Family Welfare, is on track to replace her former leader and access the position of number two in the government.
Of Chagossian origin, she had recently affirmed that whatever responsibility would be entrusted to her by the Prime Minister, she would be able to rise to the occasion. She was responding to a question from the press, who asked her about a possible interest in the post of Deputy Prime Minister.
