Road infrastructure — New road linking Cascavelle and Avenue Kestrel to Flic-en-Flac: The construction site in its home stretch

Natural spaces transformed into tarmac surfaces in the heart of a haven of peace comprising dozens of apartments

Fearing a real estate discount on their homes, several residents are considering selling

The work will be completed before the end of the year. This was highlighted by the Minister of National Infrastructure, Ajay Gunness, on Wednesday at the construction site. This visit took place in the presence of a representative of the Forces Vives of Flic-en-Flac, despite the uproar around the project. Which is which? “The whole issue is to know to what extent the authorities have carried out this work, while the project was in the pipeline under the old regime with, according to my information, another route on the side of rue Radar which is a stone's throw from our homes. These questions bother me,” confides a resident of Morcellement Palmyre.

The work has progressed a lot since the last article published in our columns, on March 28, 2026. We see that the wide strip of several hundred meters completely cleared has been partly asphalted. Street lights have also been erected on both sides of the road. On each side, a lush forest and tree trunks, the last vestiges of what was there before man's intervention. This sad spectacle is reminiscent of what took place during phase 1 of La Vigie/La Brasserie/Beaux-Songes Link Road, in 2022, when around 1,000 indigenous trees such as ebony, tambourissa, sideroxylon, among others, had were felled in Forest-Side, in the heart of a rehabilitated native forest constituting the Monvert Nature Walk Park, which extends over 70 hectares.

The development of this new connection road, which will soon extend to Wolmar and hotels like Tamarina and Maradiva, will probably alleviate traffic in the area, but beyond the danger to the ecology, this project will especially harm the residents of Dahlia and Canaris, Morcellement Palmyre and the Westline apartments who live less than 10 meters from the route. “The bitterness comes from the way these residents learned of the existence of the project. We told ourselves that this type of project could not happen here. My wife and I worked hard to afford a house in Morcellement Palmyre in Flic-en-Flac, because we wanted to feel the tranquility, far from the noise of the main avenues, but we are becoming disillusioned. “The proximity of this road to our houses will expose our properties to passing vehicles and raises concerns regarding the loss of privacy,” says a local resident.
