An envelope of Rs 110.5 million has been allocated to the preparation of athletes for several major international competitions. The announcement was made yesterday at the National Assembly by the Prime Minister and Minister of Finance, Navin Ramgoolam, during his budget speech. This funding concerns in particular the Commonwealth Games, the 2026 Youth Olympic Games, the African Games planned for Cairo, as well as the 2027 Indian Ocean Island Games in the Comoros.
The head of government also announced several sports infrastructure projects, including the construction of swimming pools in Triolet and Flacq, as well as the renovation of the Maryse-Justin stadium in Réduit and the Auguste-Vollaire stadium.
Furthermore, an allocation of Rs 1.2 billion was announced in favor of the Ministry of Youth and Sports.
