A Dangerous Drugs Book mysteriously disappeared before being found a few hours later at Victoria Hospital. A police investigation has been opened to shed light on this matter.
It all started on Tuesday evening when the manager of room 17 reported to his superior an anomaly concerning the administration of pethidine to a patient.
According to the information collected, an entry in the register indicated that the patient had received his dose of pethidine. However, upon verification, the patient claimed to have never received this medication.
Alerted, the Acting Regional Nursing Administrator went to room 17 and interviewed the patient, who confirmed that he had not received the pethidine mentioned in the register.
The next morning, several senior hospital officials went to room 17 to secure the register. To their great surprise, it had already disappeared.
The matter was immediately reported to the police. A few hours later, the register was finally found on the hospital grounds.
According to current procedures, this register must be kept in a locked cupboard. The key is intended to be held only by the room manager.
At this stage of the investigation, police are examining the possibility that false entries were made in the register with the aim of diverting or stealing pethidine.
