A 25-year-old young man claims to have experienced a real nightmare Thursday afternoon in the Providence region, in Flacq. Kidnapped by a group of men armed with sabers, he was kidnapped, beaten and finally released after his mother paid a ransom of Rs 300,000.
According to his complaint, he was in his car in the parking lot of a Guest House when an individual armed with a sword suddenly burst into the vehicle. Seized with fear, he tried to flee, but was pursued by four men, also armed.
Caught then subdued, the young man says he was tied up before being thrown by force into a car. The kidnappers then blindfolded him and beat him in the face during the journey. Under threat, they demanded Rs 300,000 from him to spare his life.
The suspects then contacted his mother so that she handed over the money near a football field in Constance. About half an hour later, the victim said he heard his mother's voice, a sign that the transaction had just taken place.
After obtaining the requested amount, the kidnappers took off again before abandoning their hostage on the main road to Laventure. Still tied up, he was finally rescued by a passerby who helped him regain his freedom.
The young man's mother confirmed to investigators that she had indeed handed over Rs 300,000 to strangers in order to obtain the release of her son. An investigation was opened to find the perpetrators of this daring kidnapping and establish the story behind this act.
