A deep sadness reigns within the Polytechnics Mauritius establishment, in Montagne-Blanche, after the discovery of the lifeless body of a 19-year-old student on campus yesterday. This sudden disappearance caused strong emotions within the student community, and among staff members and relatives of the young woman.
At this stage, the circumstances of death have not yet been established. The police went to the site and opened an investigation in order to shed light on the events that led to this tragedy. According to initial information collected by the police, the victim fell from the fifth floor.
Still, there are guardrails in the area to ensure the safety of students. Investigators will have to determine if it was an intentional fall. The victim was alone at the time of the incident while the students were in different classrooms for lessons around 11:30 a.m. No witnesses witnessed this tragic scene. It was a cleaning lady who found the victim on the ground and had to alert management. A doctor later pronounced the girl dead.
The police plan to speak with the girl's relatives to try to obtain more information about her.
Following this tragic event, the management of Polytechnics Mauritius presented its most sincere condolences to the family, friends and all those affected by this painful loss.
