Appointed Junior Ministers: Anabelle Savabaddy and Tony Apollon move up the ranks

The swearing-in ceremony of Anabelle Savabaddy and Tony Apollon as Junior Ministers took place Monday at the Château du Réduit.

It is 5 p.m. when the swearing-in ceremony begins at the Château du Réduit on Monday August 3, 2026. Tony Apollon is the first to take the oath alongside the President of the Republic, Dharam Gokhool, as Junior Minister of Youth and Sports. The audience is made up of the country's highest officials, including the Prime Minister, Navin Ramgoolam, his wife, Veena, and the Speaker of the National Assembly, Shirin Aumeeruddy-Cziffra.

It is then the turn of Anabelle Savabaddy to take the oath as Junior Minister of Tourism. She thanks the Prime Minister “for his trust”. “He is giving me this promotion following the work I have accomplished. I served as a deputy, and I guarantee the Prime Minister, the Deputy Prime Minister and the entire population, especially my constituents, that I will continue to serve them as Junior Minister,” she declared. Anabelle Savabaddy also expressed her friendship to Sydney Pierre whom she replaces, and she said she was ready to take on the challenge that awaits her.

“It’s a historic day for the MMM, where a fisherman’s child from a poor rural family becomes Junior Minister. The MMM and the Prime Minister trusted me. The choice of the ministry to which I am assigned is the prerogative of the Prime Minister. But, to avoid what people will say and conflicts of interest, I prefer a position where I can give everything. This does not prevent me from giving my opinion and advice in the tourism sector,” underlines Tony Apollon.

“I welcome this appointment with great pride at the MMM level. Tony Apollon is a hard worker. I also congratulate Anabelle Savabaddy. I would like to express my appreciation to Karen Foo Kune-Bacha. I thank her for her work,” says Deven Nagalingum, Minister of Youth and Sports, also congratulating the athletes who defended themselves well at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.

Former journalist and radio presenter, Anabelle Savabaddy (photo) entered politics during the last general elections under the colors of the Alliance for Change. Candidate in constituency no. 4 (Port-Louis North/Montagne-Longue), she was elected at the top of the list, a victory which marked a turning point in her career.

Before joining the chamber, she worked in several media, notably at Radio Plus, Top FM and Radio One. Through her broadcasts, she became known for her involvement with citizens, regularly intervening with the authorities in order to find solutions to the problems raised by listeners. She also believes that this experience allowed her to be as close as possible to the realities on the ground.
