Prime Minister Dr Navin Ramgoolam presented a motion to the National Assembly proposing the establishment of a Select Committee to examine the introduction of Morisian Kreol into parliamentary proceedings, as well as related issues.

According to this motion, the members of the committee will be designated by the Speaker of the National Assembly. The committee will be empowered to summon people, to request the production of documents and files, in particular the report of the Steering Committee, chaired by the Speaker, on the proposed introduction of Kreol Morisien in the National Assembly, dated March 12, 2026.

The Select Committee may also enlist the services of specialist advisors, if necessary, and make the recommendations it deems appropriate.

Presenting his motion, the Prime Minister stressed that the proposed introduction of Morisian kreol must be carefully examined, respecting the constitutional framework, and be accompanied, if necessary, by legislative and procedural changes.
