Faced with questions from the press, this Monday, August 3 at State House, on pension reform and calls from unions to resume negotiations, Prime Minister Navin Ramgoolam considered that it was necessary to make decisions, despite the criticism.

The head of government notably mentioned the consequences that, according to him, a possible downgrade of Mauritius' sovereign rating by the rating agencies would have, citing Moody's. He estimated that such a situation could have repercussions on the economy, in particular through a depreciation of the Mauritian rupee against the American dollar and an increase in prices.

Navin Ramgoolam also criticized the past management of public finances, believing that the country is today suffering the consequences of this situation.

Responding to concerns over pension reform, the Prime Minister rejected claims that Mauritians would no longer receive their pension at age 60. " Fake ! On the contrary, we end up earning our pension at 60,” he declared.
